About Mid-Levels West

General

For professionals, this is Hong Kong's most popular and deluxe neighbourhood. Located on the north side of the island and about halfway up the hill from Victoria Harbour, Mid-Levels boasts an impressive range of first-class amenities, including restaurants, shopping outlets, international schools, hospitals, etc. Besides a superb public transportation network, the high-end area also boasts the town's signature landmark, the half-mile-long Mid-Levels Escalator, which carries residents up the mountain in the evening - and down in the morning. The Mid-Levels district is traditionally divided into 3 main areas: West, Central and East, all of which are within close proximity of Central and Admiralty. Properties within these sub-sections vary greatly in terms of size and price for rental and sale purposes.

Housing

The diverse range of luxurious housing in Mid-Levels Central consists of modern high-rise buildings with stunning views of Victoria Harbour and the area's green surroundings, as well as older low-rise & mid-rise blocks towards the back of MacDonnell Road, Bowen Road & Magazine Gap Road.

Mid-Levels West is the busier section of the three, being a mix between retail and residential areas. There is a wide selection of colonial and new apartment blocks for rent and sale. The properties' prices are generally lower than those of Mid-Levels Central and Mid-Levels East, perfect choices for investment, rental or as an owner-occupied house.

Mid-Levels East has a lower population density, with properties largely colonial mid-rise buildings in nature. Key addresses stretch from Stubbs Road, across Wong Nai Chung Gap Road and Shiu Fai Terrace, and towards Tai Hang.

Schools

Mid-Levels West boasts some of the most elite schools in Hong Kong.

Island School was the first secondary school created after the establishment of the English Schools Foundation (ESF) in Hong Kong. It is located along Borrett Road in Mid-Levels Central.

Glenealy and Bradbury Primary Schools are both members of the ESF. They are respectively located along Hornsey Road in Mid-Levels Central and Stubbs Road in Mid-Levels East.

Carmel School is a Jewish international school located along Borrett Road.

Small World Kindergarten and Woodland Pre-school are among the many English-speaking kindergartens scattered across the Mid-Levels district.

Highlights

Mid-Levels West is connected to Central by an 800m long escalator that runs downhill from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and uphill from 10:30 a.m. to midnight.

The restaurants and nightlife of Soho and Lan Kwai Fong in Central are in close vicinity of Mid-Levels Central and West.

The Peak is easily accessible from Mid-Levels West on foot by various roads, trails and a ride on the Peak Tram. A great number of buses and minibuses also bring visitors to the renowned Hong Kong landmark from Mid-Levels West.

The Zoological and Botanical Gardens is located opposite Government House in the heart of Mid-Levels Central, while Hong Kong Park is located above Pacific Place in Admiralty. Both venues offer shortcuts to key business areas, with lush greenery and a host of wildlife for visitors to enjoy along the way.

St. John's Cathedral on Garden Road is one of the oldest and most historical landmarks in Hong Kong. At the same time, it is the only freehold land in Hong Kong.

Canossa Hospital and The Adventist are the most notable private hospitals in the district.
